Department Policies & Statements

The Department of Black Studies is an academic unit with faculty expertise within a variety of fields that prioritize the production of new interdisciplinary knowledge.

The department is also deeply committed to teaching how intersectionality and decolonization inform equality and social justice so as to transform our university community and broader society. In accord with the department’s mission and vision to challenge structural and cultural causes of inequality, we adhere to policies that recognize intersectional politics and institutional power dynamics that impact our diverse student, staff, and faculty populations.
